Crusin' on Tulsa
Time

The 17th Annual Tulsa VW show was held on September 15 at the Oklahoma Technical College. Lots of rain on Friday kept many long travelers away (especially those who declare door seals "optional"... ;-)

Clyde Kensinger, Duane & Kathy Duff, Scott & Karri Rache, Charles & ReneƩ Hudson, and Brad Weber all made the trek with just a few mishaps. Clyde's bug had a few bouts with "indigestion" and it stalled on him a time or two until he figured out to "burp" the gas tank every so often. Duane opened the hood on his Baja, and in a rush to get moving again, forgot to latch it. Couple miles later, Brad was dodging the flying hood and it came to a rest near where Clyde was in the caravan. Clyde bravely stopped traffic on US 60 west of Granby and retrieved the hood. Not only was the hood not severly damaged, the POR-15 paint he used to coat it was hardly scuffed! A few minutes putting the hood back on (AND latching it!) and we kept on through the rain to Tulsa.

Scott and Karri cruised out later in the day and fell victim to a failed right front wheel bearing in Claremore. A couple of phone calls to the host club and they got a tow to the show site (they also won best sob story :) )

At the awards, Karri dragged out all kinds of hardware (as well as 1st in early buses) while Scott was under their bus, Duane & Kathy won a cool car maintenance basket, as well as 2nd in the Baja class, Charles & ReneƩ took 1st in late bugs, Brad got 3rd in late custom buses.

A good time by all, and no worries on the road home!

Find ethanol-free gasoline for your VW!

Ethanol in VW engines is bad. Period. From degraded carburetor components, to water in the oil, to damaged engine components, to poor performance, to rusted exhaust systems, there just isn't any good that comes to our beloved vee-dubs from it.

The site www.pure-gas.org is dedicated to locating and logging locations of fuel stations that supply ethanol-free fuel. There are some quick links below for Missouri and other states to where GROOVErs frequently travel. For other states, visit www.pure-gas.org.
