Rabbit documents

Does your VW use water to keep cool? We want to hear about it!

78 Rabbit

Postby djghia on Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:59 pm

I entered the water-cooled world today. Drove to Springdale and brought back this '78 Rabbit Deluxe. 32,000 actual miles, factory air, automatic, stripe kit and special wheel covers, dealer installed AM/FM radio. Comes with window sticker and other cool documents. Spent part of the day waxing the very oxidized paint and it is looking better. Dave J

Rabbit vent window upgrade

Postby djghia on Sat Mar 20, 2010 3:07 pm

As earlier mentioned, I went to B&C Friday and picked up some new vent windows to replace the not so solid glue-in units. Here is a little photo run down of the work done.
Before, cardboard and masking tape. Always a classy look!
Image
Here is one of the new units from B&C. They came out of an early '80s cabby, so needed some modifications.
Image
I had to grind the rivets holding the vent frames to the uprights since my original upright was shorter and missing the lower mounting tab. You can see there is also an extra top mounting tab for the cabby door frame which I don't need and it would be in the way.
Image
Here is the new frame assembly riveted together (my short upright and the bolt-on vent frame) ready to install
Image
And now we have a properly functioning vent window that will not fall off on both sides!
Image
All in all, not a bad job and I am so glad that I won't have to worry about them now. I was fortunate that my rubber seals were in good shape. Dave J

Looks better now that it has a couple of coats of wax!

Just curious what kind of wax you use. Looks great! I have heard you only want wax with cleaner or teflon? I'm not really sure which is best.

Anyway this could be a good topic for everyone.

Whats your favorite wax. :?:

Rabbit documents

Took some shots of most of the original documents that came with the car.

Window sticker. Fairly expensive for a Rabbit.

Dealer receipt with add-ons.

Others.

There are a few more, dealer bill of sale, odometer certificate, cigarette lighter tag, etc. but I haven't taken any shots of them yet.
